Mary Elizabeth Heard specializes in representing ad valorem tax lenders in bankruptcy proceedings in Texas and California. She also focuses on high volume business transactions in a variety of industries, including SAAS, solar energy, and real estate. Ms. Heardís practice is driven by her desire to help her clients solve problems and take advantage of opportunities in the most efficient way possible. Along with her partners at Harrison & Duncan, she is committed to providing a superior work product at a very reasonable rate. Along with her experience advising clients on ad valorem tax issues and business transactions, Ms. Heard has significant experience advising clients in out of court restructurings. Ms. Heard advises clients on insolvency and litigation matters in a variety of pre-bankruptcy workouts, complex bankruptcy reorganizations and liquidations, including distressed real estate transactions.
In addition to complex commercial litigation practice while at Latham & Watkins, LLP in San Francisco, California and then Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP in San Antonio, Texas, Ms. Heard has represented debtors, creditors and a variety of court appointed professionals in Chapter 7, 9, 11, 12 and 13 bankruptcy cases and adversary proceedings. Her broad-based commercial litigation practice in antitrust, intellectual property, white collar, class action and constitutional litigation matters has given her an expansive platform from which she can advise clients on restructuring their businesses. Conversely, her exposure to bankruptcy litigation and commercial litigation has provided Ms. Heard with a unique perspective that is particularly helpful to new businesses when they are setting up their business contracts. Notably, Ms. Heard has significant restructuring and bankruptcy litigation experience in the following industries: semiconductors; oil and gas; solar energy and real estate. In addition to appearances in federal district courts, bankruptcy courts and state courts in Texas and California, Ms. Heard has solo trial experience - having represented 400 disabled clients in hearings in front of Administrative Law Judges.
Ms. Heard is a member of the State Bar of California, the State Bar of Texas, the Larry E. Kelly Inn of Court, the San Antonio Bankruptcy Bar Association and the San Antonio Bar Association.
Ms. Heard is a founding board member of Thrive Youth Center, a homeless center for GLBT Youth in San Antonio, Texas. Education:
